Software Engineer II, Messaging Security Products
About the Role
Abnormal AI is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer II to join our innovative team, working across the Messaging Security Products (MSP) division, including the Threat Visibility and Exploration Team (TREX) and the Adaptive Classifications Team (ACT). This role focuses on delivering a top-tier product experience by enhancing our core offerings in Email Security and threat visibility. The engineer will be responsible for building and maintaining comprehensive products, ensuring seamless integration from the database layer to the user interface, with a primary focus on back-end development and some front-end responsibilities (80% back end, 20% front end).
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in full-stack development, possessing in-depth knowledge of both frontend and backend technologies. This position requires leveraging skills to improve visibility into detected threats, enabling SOC teams to intuitively search and filter threat data. Additionally, the role supports SOC workflow automation by developing tools such as the AI Security Mailbox and Detection 360. What you will do
- Design and execute software projects that are crucial to Abnormal’s success, in collaboration with a team of engineers, through conception, design, implementation, launch, and operation
- Provide guidance and mentorship for junior members of the team
- Collaborate with Technical Program Managers, Product Managers, and GTM teams to implement, verify, and iterate on issues and requests from our customers
- Raise the standard of excellence in engineering by actively sharing knowledge within the team and engaging in professional development activities
- Hit the ground running by contributing to the team's work within the first two weeks
Must Haves
- BS degree in Computer Science, Applied Sciences, Information Systems, or other related engineering field
- 3+ years of industry experience designing & building fullstack software applications
- Experience with our stack:
- Expert in Python and/or Go skills
- Intermediate React, Redux, JS/Typescript
- Experience building features & components from scratch and operating them, balancing feature development work with operational tasks
- Open to following pre-established guidelines, coding practices, and conventions
- Experience working with distributed teams, proficient in asynchronous and written communication
- You’re growth-driven & looking to increase impact & responsibility over time
- You’re able to leverage AI Developer tools such as Copilot, Claude, or Cursor in your daily workflow
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with our stack: AWS, K8s, Django, Postgres/MySQL, Prometheus
- Familiarity with AWS services and deployment practices.
- Experience working with LLM-powered tools and AI assistants
- Knowledge of containerization
- Experience with distributed systems

Actual compensation will be determined based on several non-discriminatory factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for bonus or incentive compensation, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package.
