Meet Timothy Davison, AI Native Product Manager

After years in the Army and time spent researching machine learning in academia, Timothy Davison wasn’t chasing speed when he arrived at Abnormal — but he stepped into a place built for it. Army, Academia and AI Transformation

Timothy Davison didn’t take the usual path into product management. Six years in the Army and a stretch in academic AI research shaped how he thinks about leadership, problem-solving, and the pace of innovation. By the time he discovered Abnormal’s AI Transformation team, he knew he wanted a role where ideas didn’t sit on a whiteboard — they became real, quickly, and solved problems that mattered.

“Academia was awesome,” he said. “But it moves very, very slowly. At Abnormal, you get to build, test, and ship ideas that change how teams work—sometimes in a matter of weeks.”

Redefining Product Management in an AI-First Worlds

Unlike traditional product managers, Timothy’s role blends product vision with hands-on engineering. “It’s kind of a hybrid,” he said. “I get to write code, build prototypes, and work directly with Customer Success to understand their pain points. You wear a lot of hats, which keeps it fun.”

That autonomy comes with responsibility. “This role is like being the CEO of your own small product,” he said. “You have to align with leadership, operations, and end users. There are a lot of stakeholders, but the trust and ownership you’re given make it incredibly rewarding.”

He often collaborates with executives—including CEO Evan Reiser—who attend weekly demo hours to see the latest AI prototypes. “What struck me is how much leadership cares,” he said. “I got feedback from Evan on an early CSM Coach email template. It wasn’t about micromanaging—it showed me he truly cared about what we were building.”

Building Tools That Make People Better

Timothy’s first project was the CSM Coach, an AI tool that helps Customer Success Managers improve after every customer call. It listens to call transcripts, analyzes key competencies like value articulation and stakeholder management, and sends personalized feedback within hours.

“The hard part with functions where you’re constantly on calls is that you can’t get feedback at scale,” Timothy explained. “Managers can’t sit in on every meeting, but AI can.”

Using AI to process feedback loops, his team has already sent nearly 700 coaching emails in just two months, with 87% of feedback indicating users find the coaching beneficial One senior CSM told him he opens it after every call—“because it gives me tips on how to tie value back to Abnormal in customer-specific ways.”

“When I realized AI wasn’t just helping us code faster but actually helping us design and improve the product itself, it changed how I think about what it means to be a Product Manager here.”

A Culture That Moves Fast and Learns Faster

Timothy describes Abnormal’s culture as equal parts ambitious and supportive. “Everyone expects excellence and operates with high trust,” he said. “If you’re curious, there’s always someone willing to hop on a Zoom and teach you something new.”

He also points to the company’s investment in AI fluency. “We have every AI tool you could want—and if you don’t, you can ask for it,” he said. “When I joined, we had hackathons and classes on how to use these tools. It really levels you up.”

Balancing speed with quality is part of the job. “We value velocity here,” he explained. “Even if something’s not perfect, we ship fast, get feedback, and make it one percent better every day.”

You get to build, test, and ship ideas that change how teams work - sometimes in a matter of weeks.”

Thriving at Abnormal

When asked what kind of person would love this role, Timothy doesn’t hesitate. “Ambitious problem solvers who are curious and comfortable working autonomously,” he said. “You don’t have to have written tons of code, but you do need to understand how software works and be eager to learn.”

He emphasizes the importance of empathy, too. “I’ve never been a Customer Success Manager,” he said. “But to build great tools for them, I have to understand their world. So you need to be inquisitive, collaborative, and people-focused.”

“We definitely “walk the walk” here. Leadership reinforces the culture every day—and it’s visible to everyone.”

Looking Ahead

In just a few months, Timothy has helped shape the foundation of Abnormal’s AI Transformation team—and he’s already thinking ahead. “We’re starting with Go-to-Market teams, but the long-term vision is to expand AI transformation across every part of the company,” he said. “It’s exciting to build something that’s going to change how people work.”

He sees a clear parallel between his time in the Army and his work now: both require focus, agility, and a strong sense of purpose. “What drives me,” he said, “is seeing technology make people’s work more meaningful. That’s what keeps me going.”

At Abnormal, AI Transformation is about more than building tools — it’s about reimagining how work gets done. If you’re driven to explore what’s next in AI and help build the future of cybersecurity, join us.
