Building Security That Scales

Yashvi works on the Human Security Products team, where she builds backend systems that protect clients from security threats. Her focus goes beyond traditional engineering to exploiting AI tools so the team can provide the best possible value to clients.

"I am a software engineer in the Human Security Product team. I build backend systems that protect clients from security threats while trying to exploit AI tools so we can provide the best possible value to our clients," she explains.

Her work spreads across the day due to collaboration with teams around the globe. About 60% of her time focuses on coding, while 40% goes to discussions, brainstorming, meetings, system design, and non-coding problem-solving.

The global nature of her work means constant collaboration, but it also brings diverse perspectives to every technical challenge.

AI That Surprises Even Engineers

Yashvi has witnessed AI capabilities evolve at remarkable speed during her time at Abnormal. What started as tools for simple, repetitive tasks has expanded into something much more powerful.

"As most engineers are aware, the way AI writes code for well-defined and simple tasks that used to be repetitive, for example, building production-level CRUD APIs including tests, monitoring, alerting, logging, and decent security measures, are now extremely fast due to LLMs," she notes.

But what really surprises her is how recent LLMs like Claude and GPT-4 tackle deep research-based tasks that usually require heavy brainstorming. The technology has moved beyond automation into genuine problem-solving assistance.

The way AI can build in-house helper tools like internal portals with great velocity is the most helpful yet unexpected improvement in the lives of engineers here."

Leadership Without Bureaucracy

What draws Yashvi to Abnormal's engineering culture is how leadership tackles open-ended problems. The approach gives her and teammates immense opportunities to step into different roles, show creativity, and build amazing systems without bureaucratic limitations.

"The way my team's leadership is tackling open-ended problems gives me and my teammates immense opportunities to step into different shoes, show creativity, and build amazing systems without lots of bureaucratic limitations holding us back."

This approach creates an environment where engineers can focus on actually interesting deep technical problems rather than spending time on mundane tasks. The scale of impact from building such products feels surprisingly pleasant.

The Speed of Innovation

One aspect that continues to surprise Yashvi is how quickly the company adapts to new technology, ideas, and innovations all the way to the bottom level. The speed at which each engineer was enabled, equipped, and prepared to leverage AI exemplifies this approach.

"The speed at which the company adapts to new technology, ideas, and innovates until the very bottom level is very surprising to me," she says.

This creates an environment where engineers can really integrate the latest tech trends into day-to-day work, stay updated with the software industry and security domain, and work at a super fast-moving company that also maintains great culture.

"Our internal agents mean we don't have to spend time doing mundane tasks for a long time. We get to spend time on actually interesting deep technical problems."

Growing During Disruption

Yashvi comes from a background where AI was not being used much and work focused on perfecting code. At Abnormal, the usage of latest tech trends like AI, tools, and frameworks happens at super fast pace, helping engineers become significantly more productive.

"Here at Abnormal, the usage of latest tech trends like AI, tools, frameworks is super fast. That is helping us become significantly productive," she notes.

Since her team started around the same time she joined, she has seen the journey from zero to one and been part of most big and small decisions. This has helped develop a much broader view of the domain and provides many opportunities to grow.

The balance between speed while ensuring quality and excellence represents the most valuable lesson she continues learning.

Hybrid Connection

Yashvi's team operates as a hybrid model, coming to the office about two days per week. Everyone is supportive and smart, creating great opportunities to learn from each other and grow.

"My team is actually hybrid, so we come to office about two days a week. Everyone is very supportive and smart. It's great to learn from each other and grow," she explains.

The combination of in-person collaboration and remote flexibility gives the team the best of both approaches.

Defining the Future

Yashvi feels grateful to be part of a company that provides the opportunity to help define the new way engineering will work. While the industry goes through some of the most disruptive times it has ever seen, she hopes to continue contributing to making Abnormal the most dynamic, adaptive, and up-to-date company delivering solutions to clients.

"While we are going through the most disruptive times this industry has ever seen, I am grateful to be part of a company that gives me the opportunity to help define the new way engineering is going to be," she reflects.

The opportunity to stay at the forefront of technological change while building meaningful products keeps her motivated and engaged.

Advice for Fellow Engineers

For anyone hoping to join Abnormal, Yashvi's advice is clear:

"If you want to really integrate latest tech trends in your day-to-day work, if you want to stay updated with software industry as well as security-domain, and if you want to work at a super fast moving company that also has a great culture, this is the place to be."
