Four years ago, Brynn Collins walked into what she calls "organized chaos." No onboarding. No training materials. Just a scrappy startup team and endless problems to solve. Today, she runs operations for a 60-person global team that never sleeps, ensuring Abnormal's AI detection systems get the high-quality data they need to stop the next cyberattack.

"My growth at Abnormal has mirrored the company's. Fast, dynamic, and full of opportunity," she says from her home office in southern Utah. "I started as an entry-level security analyst and worked my way up to operations manager by stepping into the gaps when leadership was needed."

When Problems Become Opportunities

Brynn's team operates as "the human in the loop" for Abnormal's detection systems. The people who make sure AI learns from the right data, ethically and sustainably. It sounds technical, but for her, it's deeply personal. "We're not just processing data. We're the reason our platform can evolve as fast as the threats we're fighting."

Running a team that operates 24/7 across continents means no two days look the same. "There's always a new problem to solve, something to fix, something to build," she says. "That keeps my job super interesting and engaging."

"I never have the same day twice. There's always something new to solve, build, or fix. The flexibility to work from home and structure my day how I need to helps me stay engaged while running a 24/7 global team."

Building What Didn't Exist Before

When Brynn joined, the team was "very bare bones." Four years later, she's helped transform a beta operation into what she calls "a maturing, scaling organization." Her proudest achievement? Solving a coordination nightmare that was eating up an entire person's workweek.

"Coordination is the backbone of how my team runs globally," she explains. "It was taking us an entire headcount each week just to manage scheduling manually." Her solution? An AI-powered system that reduced coordination time by 87% while improving service level agreements across the board.

"We're now running more efficiently than ever before and solving problems we've never been able to solve," she says.

The Reality of Velocity

Abnormal's value of Velocity isn't just a poster on the wall. It's lived experience. "We move at a super fast speed. Velocity is absolutely embodied here," Brynn says. "It can be intimidating and hard to jump in with this pace."

That pace has its trade-offs. Work-life balance requires intentional boundaries when you're managing operations that span time zones. But Brynn has found perspective in the challenge: "If you're working on something interesting enough to bug you outside of working hours, it's probably pretty important and interesting."

What She Wishes People Knew

"Something I wish more people knew about our culture is that you are absolutely surrounded by smart and capable people," Brynn reflects. "Be ready to work really hard and be part of something super exciting."
